Human Rights Centre of Kabardino-Balkaria discusses xenophobia issues

A roundtable was held at the Kabardino-Balkarian Human Rights Centre dedicated to xenophobia issues. Denga Khalidov, Corresponding Fellow of the Academy of Geopolitical Sciences of Russia, took part in the debates.

Valery Khatazhukov, head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Human Rights Centre, has explained that the new leadership of the Republic is taking measures to attract investments and create new jobs, however, it cannot be done overnight, therefore, the outflow of the population continues. When leaving for major cities, citizens of the KBR (Kabardino-Balkarian Republic) are facing various problems, including xenophobia.

In his turn, Mr Khalidov has reported that the senior generation of Russians consists of bearers of internationalist consciousness. Meanwhile today, Russia already has a whole generation of younger people who have grown up in a specific environment, where too much accent was made on one's ethnic origin.

Denga Khalidov has said that certain misunderstanding exists also at the level of law enforcement bodies, which are also infected by the virus of nationalism.

"I would have been unfair by avoiding another side of the problem. Our fellow countrymen are not always behaving adequately in the Russian environment and admit improper actions. They do not break the law, but sometimes are perceived as challenging and impudent in their behaviour."

Further, Denga Khalidov has added that the Russian Congress of Caucasian Nations (RCCN) has sent letters to the General Prosecutor's Office, FSB and the Russian Committee for Culture Protection, in which a serious analysis was made of the mass media propagandizing xenophobic spirits and a forecast of what the result can be for Russia.
