In Dagestan, Gerkhmakhi villagers explain reasons for their appeal to President Putin

In Dagestan, residents of the Gerkhmakhi village suffer from regular power outages. There is no kindergarten in the village, and the buildings of local school and paramedic station are in need of repair. The above has been explained by local residents when they made another attempt to attract the authorities’ attention to the problems of their village.

On December 13, two video messages from residents of the village of Gerkhmakhi in the Akushinsky District were posted on the Internet. In the first video, villagers asked Vladimir Putin to solve problems with gas and electricity supply to the village. In the second video, a fighter participating in the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine voiced a similar request to Sergei Melikov, the leader of Dagestan.

Magomed, a resident of Gerkhmakhi, told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent that was not the first time when the villagers addressed the President of Russia. “We wrote appeals earlier as well. However, our letters were not probably delivered, as we received no answers,” said Magomed. The man adds that the village is a home for about 2000 people.

“The nearest hospital is 24 kilometres away, a car drives about 45 minutes. An ambulance comes to the village if necessary, but people have to wait for it for too long,” noted Aminat, a resident of the Gerkhmakhi village.

According to the woman, the village suffers from other social problems: in particular, the absence of a kindergarten, while about 250 preschool children live in Gerkhmakhi.

There is a school in the village, but its building has long been in need of major repairs, Aminat notes.

“Our fellow villagers move to the Rostov Region, the Stavropol Territory, and Kalmykia, because they find no jobs in our village. There is no land to raise cattle, vegetable gardens have fallen into disrepair, and young people leave the village for the cities to work there,” stated Aminat.
