Blogger Alibekov complains about conditions in penal colony after his release

Blogger Askhabali Alibekov, who was released after serving his sentence for discrediting the Russian Armed Forces, complained about the quality of food and medical care in the penal colony. The blogger claims that his letters with complaints about conditions of detention did not reach their recipients. Askhabali Alibekov announced his intention to continue blogging.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 23, in Novorossiysk, a court sentenced Askhabali (also referred to as Askhab) Alibekov to a year and two months of imprisonment, recognizing that the video on his YouTube channel discredited the Russian Armed Forces.

The blogger claimed that upon his release from the penal colony, warders forbade video recording, threatening that he would “stay there.”

Askhabali Alibekov called the conditions of detention in the penal colony in Apsheronsk, where he was serving his sentence, “terrible.” “Firstly, bad food. They fed people worse than pigs, they gave us oats with stones ... Secondly, actual lack of medical care,” complained Askhabali Alibekov. According to the blogger, he complained about poor medical care to the administration of the penal colony, but did not achieve any results.

The blogger has added that his letters were subject to partial censorship, as his letters with complaints were not allowed through. There were also provocations against him. In particular, other prisoners tried to attack him, and there were also attempts to provoke him to say careless words, probably in order to institute a new criminal case against him. “But over several years I learned to behave and tried not to aggravate the situation,” emphasized Askhabali Alibekov.

On November 2, 2022, the human rights project “Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial” recognized Askhabali Alibekov as a political prisoner.
