Resident of Chechnya sentenced in case on justification of terrorism

A court imposed a large fine on a resident of Chechnya, finding him guilty of justifying terrorism because of his posts on the social media.

The man was sentenced by the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don. According to the public prosecutors’ version, with his posts on the Internet, the man “recognized the ideology and practice of terrorism as correct, in need of support and imitation,” the “Chechnya Segodnya” (Chechnya Today) news agency reported with reference to the prosecutor’s office.

The court imposed a fine of 500,000 roubles on the defendant and deprived him of the right to administer websites for two years.

In March, the “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Zelimkhan Murtazaliev, a resident of Chechnya, was sentenced under the same article. The man pleaded guilty in court and was released from paying a fine of 500,000 roubles, taking into account the period of time spent by him in custody.
