Participant of protests against mobilization in Makhachkala sentenced to probation

In Makhachkala, a court sentenced Mukhamed-Afandi Asipov to a two-year suspended sentence in a case on an attack on a law enforcer during protests against mobilization.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on September 25 and 26, 2022, large-scale protest actions against mobilization took place in Makhachkala, which ended in mass detentions. At least 148 people were found guilty of violating the procedure for holding public events. At least 20 criminal cases were instituted against protestors for using violence against police officers, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) reported.

The Soviet District Court of Makhachkala found Mukhamed-Afandi Asipov guilty of attacking a law enforcer, the human rights project “OVD-Info”* reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has also reported that Adam Gadjiev was sentenced to one and a half years of imprisonment in a case on the use of violence against a public officer during the protest actions in Makhachkala against mobilization.

The charges against four participants of the protest action in Makhachkala against mobilization were reclassified from the article on assaulting a law enforcer to the article on causing minor bodily harm. The protestors were released from a SIZO (pre-trial prison).

Let us remind you that the authorities of Dagestan refused to recognize the protests actions as the initiative of local residents. Dagestani Prime Minister Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov declared that the protests were inspired from abroad, and the republic’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) explained the harsh dispersal of the protesters by their aggressive behaviour.
