Prosecution demands life sentence for Colonel Isaev

The prosecutor has asked the court to sentence Gazi Isaev, a former police head of the Kizlyar District, accused of having links with the organizers of the terror acts in Moscow, to life imprisonment. He treats the case against him as fabricated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2022, a court in Moscow began considering the case of Police Colonel Gazi Isaev. The defendant claimed his innocence, treating the case as customized and noting that the charges are based on the testimonies of convicted militants, against whom he had fought. Isaev treats these testimonies as the convicts' revenge.

According to investigators, in 2010, Isaev was a member of the militant community under command by Magomedali Vagabov; he was also a member of the armed grouping of Abas Ramazanov and helped them in committing two terror acts in the Moscow metro. Isaev faces up to life imprisonment.

As a result of the explosions committed on March 29, 2010, a total of 40 people were killed and more than a hundred were wounded. The responsibility for the terror acts was claimed by Doku Umarov, the leader of North-Caucasian militants, who stated that he was taking revenge on Russian militaries for their actions in Chechnya.

In court, Isaev claimed that got into the dock because of Alexander Pogorelov, a former head of the Kizlyar District, who died in 2021. According to Isaev's defence, in this way he took revenge on the law enforcers for the checks, which had resulted in several criminal cases.

On July 9, 2020, Pogorelov was removed from his post and placed under house arrest. In the same year, it became known that he was suspected of frauds with land plots and abuse of authority.

Eldar Khastinov, an advocate, has asked to acquit the client Isaev, claiming that his guilt was not proved, since a number of witnesses have slandered the defendant; and a number of others gave their testimonies from the words of other persons.

The verdict will be announced on March 16.
