Number of fighters from Caucasus perished in Ukraine exceeds death toll among law enforcers in NCFD within 11 years

During the year of hostilities in Ukraine, at least 845 residents of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) perished there, while during eleven years of the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, the power bloc lost 480 employees.

The actions of the Russian army in Ukraine over the past year have influenced the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. According to official data, the number of Caucasian law enforcers killed in Ukraine is more than one and a half times higher than the results of many years of attacks by the local armed underground.

According to the calculations run by the “Caucasian Knot”, for the whole of 2022, six persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, including five suspected militants and one law enforcer killed. In 2021, 32 people fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, which is 45.8% less than in 2020 (59 people).

The number of armed incidents has decreased by more than four times: three in 2022 against 13 in 2021. In 2020, 21 incidents were recorded in Northern Caucasus.

At least two cases are known in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), when the authorities disclosed the number of killed fighters from Chechnya and Kabardino-Balkaria. In Kabardino-Balkaria, since the beginning of the special military operation, the authorities have disclosed 61 dead, and the assistance has been provided to the families of 84 dead.

Besides, the “Caucasian Knot” knows the names of 58 residents of Chechnya, the information about whose deaths in Ukraine has been officially confirmed, but in October, Ramzan Kadyrov also reported about the deaths of 23 soldiers “overnight” near Kherson. In February, the leader of Chechnya criticized colleagues who reported about the death toll during the special military operation in Ukraine.
