Leyla Gireeva's defence demands to close the theft criminal case

The criminal case on the theft of gold jewellery was initiated against Leyla Gireeva, who had run away from home at the application of her mother, who was seeking her daughter's return to Nazran. This application was not supported by facts, the girl's defence has pointed out and demanded to cancel the resolution on opening the case.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 1, it became known that the 18-year-old Leyla Gireeva told the police about regular violence against her from her parents. She asked for protection from relatives, who, according to her version, could cripple or kill her.

In Nazran (Ingushetia) Leyla was subjected to domestic violence and "the expulsion of genies," which prompted her to run away from home on November 14, said Svetlana Anokhina, a Dagestani journalist and a human rights defender from the NGO entitled "Marem". After the escape, her relatives accused Leyla of theft in order to put her on the wanted list.

As the SK SOS Crisis Group reported in its Telegram channel, Leyla's mother accused her daughter of stealing jewellery worth 275,000 roubles. The girl denies the theft.

"The police have no evidence that any gold jewellery ever existed and belonged to Leyla's mother," the publication of the Group says.

Now Leyla Gireeva is in a safe place, but the threat of forced return to her family remains, the SK SOS Crisis Group reported on November 24.
