Prisoners of Kalmyk colony retract their testimonies about torture

Daud Kuramagomedov and Magomed Atimagomedov, natives of Dagestan, insist on their testimonies about torture in the colony located in Kalmykia, but eight other prisoners have retracted their testimonies.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in September, in Kalmykia, investigators opened a criminal case on incitement to mass riots against the inmates from Dagestan, Magomed Atimagomedov and Daud Kuramagomedov, accused of assaulting colony staff. According to their advocates, their clients had been severely beaten up in the colony.

Magomed Atimagomedov, who is serving his term at the colony known as IK-2 in Kalmykia, and is accused of killing a colony warden, said that he had planned to escape, as the FSIN (Russian Federal Penitentiary Service) officers threatened to charge him under a terrorist article, but he was not involved in the murder, but was forced to sign his testimony under pressure. Atimagomedov is threatened and fears for his life, his advocate, Aza Alieva, asserts.

The colony inmates, who had claimed torture, later renounced their testimonies under pressure, Ms Alieva has suggested. According to her version, eight inmates have withdrawn their testimonies, and only Kurmagomedov and Atimagomedov insist on their earlier ones.
