New appointment of Security Council's ex-secretary is Kadyrov's attempt to expand his influence

The appointment of Apti Alaudinov, a former secretary of the Chechen Security Council, to a post in the militia of the LPR (Lugansk People's Republic) has become an element of Ramzan Kadyrov's strategy aimed at expanding his sphere of influence by means of a loyal person.

On November 3, Kadyrov announced that Apti Alaudinov, the commander of the "Akhmat" special forces, after resigning from the post of the secretary of the Security Council of Chechnya, received the rank of major general and took the post of deputy commander for combat operations of the army corps of the LPR's People's Militia. Besides, he retained the post of assistant to the head of Chechnya.

"Kadyrov needs his people at the frontline, who could watch what is happening … Alaudinov will be his [Kadyrov's] representative," Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the "Assembly of Caucasian Nations", believes.

The Alaudinov's new appointment is part of Kadyrov's strategy aimed to expand his sphere of influence and "place his people everywhere," Dmitry Oreshkin, a political analyst, has noted.

Besides, according to his version, the appointment of Alaudinov can be used to enhance Kadyrov's publicity.

Let us remind you that Alaudinov was dismissed from the post of the chief of police in Chechnya on March 18, 2021, amid the resonance of publication of the "Novaya Gazeta" with the story of a former fighter of the regiment named after Akhmat Kadyrov, who became an eyewitness to extrajudicial executions in Chechnya. Alaudinov's dismissal was a sign of his disgrace, some analysts then pointed out.

On March 23, 2021, it became known that Alaudinov was appointed assistant to the head of Chechnya. In 2022, Apti Alaudinov's trip to Ukraine was a chance to regain his influence in Chechnya, Svetlana Gannushkina, a rights defender, and Ruslan Kutaev have pointed out.
