Relatives claims pressure on participant of incident in Kalmyk colony

Magomed Atimagomedov, a native of Dagestan, accused of assaulting the staff of Colony No. 2 in Kalmykia, was forbidden to pray; he was subjected to physical pressure, his mother and brother have stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 7, it became known that officials of the central office of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) left for Kalmykia to clarify the circumstances of the inmates' attack on the staff of the high security colony located in the dwelling settlement of Yashkul. On August 8, the "Gulagu.net" human rights project reported that more than a hundred colony prisoners were beaten up after the murder of a colony servant. According to Vladimir Osechkin, the project manager, two convicts who are accused of assaulting the prison staff had been tortured earlier.

The mother of Magomed Atimagomedov, the inmate of the Yashkul colony, who is accused of assaulting the staff, said that they had "broken his psyche," writes the "Chernovik" outlet.

Zaira Atimagomedova, the mother, has told that her son "was systematically beaten up, insulted, mocked, and not allowed to pray."

According to her story, the conflict was provoked.

She has added that her son had complained about ill-treatment; and she sent an application to the FSIN asking to transfer him to a colony in Astrakhan, but to no avail.
