Armenian Ombudsperson demands to investigate death of film producer Grigoryan

Film producer Armen Grigoryan, accused of inciting ethnic hatred, died during a court hearing. Armen Grigoryan was kept under arrest despite health problems, the opposition noted. The Ombudsperson demanded an investigation into his death.

During the court hearing, Armen Grigoryan’s health state deteriorated, and he lost consciousness. The court hearing was interrupted, and an ambulance was called to the court building, the “Panorama” reported. Doctors stated that Armen Grigoryan had a cardiac arrest.

Armen Grigoryan was arrested on May 17. He was accused of posting statements on social networks and media humiliating residents of Shirak and Ararat Regions.

Armenian Ombudsperson Kristine Grigoryan requested clarification from the General Prosecutor Office and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) in connection with the Armen Grigoryan’s death, the “News.Am” reports.

After the report about the Armen Grigoryan’s death, people gathered in front of the court building to express their outrage, including former MP Naira Zograbyan. “Armen wanted to save our homeland ... His death is on the conscience of everyone who did not want to fight against this regime,” Naira Zograbyan said. The former MP considered the reasons for the persecution of Armen Grigoryan to be of political nature, the publication “Aysor.am” reports.

Armen Grigoryan was engaged in active social activities, the “Panorama” reported.
