Tbilisi students demand authorities' reaction to their protest action

Students of the Tbilisi State University (TSU) have agreed to unblock the rector's office in exchange for the rector's resignation and a meeting with the Georgian Minister of Education to discuss the issue of possible distance (remote) learning due to high rental housing prices in Tbilisi.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 10, TSU students held a protest action, at which they demanded to preserve the distance learning. They said that the cost of renting housing in Tbilisi is too high. On June 4, the TSU decided to provide some students with free accommodation in a hostel, but refused to conduct the examination session online. On June 11, students seized the rector's office, after which TSU bosses agreed to comply with the students' demand to change the format of the examination session. During the protest, some university employees suffered; four of them were hospitalized.

TSU students have been holding their protest action for the fifth day; they continue staying in the university rector's office, the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel has reported.
