Natives of Northern Caucasus complain about bans on crossing Georgian border

Some natives of Ingushetia, Chechnya, and Dagestan are not allowed to cross the Georgian border without explanation, tourists complain. There is no national subtext in the actions of Georgian border guards, the Ministry of National Policy of Ingushetia reports.

A message reporting that the Georgian side does not allow natives of Northern Caucasus to cross the border was posted on Instagram* page of The Magas Times.

Alana, a native of Ingushetia, said that on May 30, her friend was not allowed into Georgia without explaining the reason for the refusal.

Ruslan from Ingushetia managed to cross the border. However, the man believes he was let in because he was traveling together with his family.

Meanwhile, according to the native of Ingushetia, male natives of Northern Caucasus are not allowed in Georgia without any explanations.

In turn, Andrei, a native of Moscow, said that not only residents of Chechnya or Ingushetia were refused in entering Georgia. “Residents of the Caucasus are not allowed into Georgia. Everyone with whom we were standing on the border on May 29 was refused. Russians are allowed selectively,” the native of Moscow said.

According to an official from the Ministry for Foreign Relations, National Policy, Press, and Information of Ingushetia, there are no confirmed cases of residents of Ingushetia not being allowed through a Georgian border checkpoint.
