Opposition tries disrupting Pashinyan's meeting with Montenegrin president

The meeting of the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, with Milo Djukanovic, President of Montenegro, in Yerevan was held amid a protest action. Pashinyan cannot represent the interests of the Armenian people, oppositionists have stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Armenian opposition has been holding protest actions since April 25. On May 26, protesters gathered outside the building of the Supreme Judicial Council in Yerevan and demanded that a criminal case be opened against the Premier Pashinyan.

On May 26, supporters of the opposition also held a march demanding the resignation of Pashinyan and his government – it follows from the live broadcast of the march on the "Yerkir.am" website, which was watched by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The marchers walked from France Square to Republic Square, where the government building is located. "Pashinyan's meeting with the Montenegrin President, Milo Djukanovic, is scheduled in the government building. We go there to state that Pashinyan has no mandate, and he doesn't represent the interests of the Armenian people. Pashinyan is illegitimate; and any agreement with him is invalid," Ishkhan Sagatelyan, the coordinator of the protest movement and a vice speaker of the Armenian parliament, has stated.

Law enforcers have pulled reinforced police units, including special fighters, to the central square.

In Republic Square, activists chanted slogans calling for Pashinyan to resign and blew vuvuzelas.

The organizers of the action said that they managed to break the protocol of the meeting with a foreign guest, who was led into the building through the government garages. From now on, Pashinyan will hold all his meetings behind law enforcers' backs, they have noted.
