Activists express their confidence in results of presidential election in South Ossetia

The preliminary data from the Central Election Committee (CEC) on the victory of Alan Gagloev in the presidential election in South Ossetia inspire confidence amid the admission of defeat by Anatoly Bibilov, South Ossetian activists say.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on May 8, the voting took place in the second round of the presidential election in South Ossetia. After counting 97% of the ballots, the CEC reported that Alan Gagloev won 54.2% of the votes, while incumbent President Anatoly Bibilov gained 43.3% of the votes. Anatoly Bibilov congratulated his rival on the victory.

Tamara Mearakashvili, an activist from the Lenigorsk District, has told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent that the preliminary results of the presidential election inspire confidence. “I trust the election results for all the years that I have lived here. Let’s take our district – we do not have election fraud or pressure on the administrative resource. That is, for example, a voter can work in the district administration and support a rival of power,” Tamara Mearakashvili explained.

Timur Tskhurbati, an activist from Tskhinvali, has also expressed his confidence in the results of the second round of the presidential election. The activist notes that he does not expect the election results to be challenged. “I trust the results of the election, because there was a good control system. The election was fair, and I think the story is over. The main danger came from Anatoly Bibilov, and he recognized the results of the election,” Timur Tskhurbati has told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
