Opposition threatens to paralyze traffic in Yerevan

On May 5, the opposition marched in Yerevan, calling on townspeople to join the movement demanding Pashinyan's resignation. The protesters announced large-scale actions and their intention to block traffic in Yerevan from four directions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that disobedience actions began in Armenia on April 25. Thousands are protesting in the country's capital; and detentions are made daily.

In the May 5 action, about 4200 people took part, the "Union of Informed Citizens" has reported.

"Authorities are putting pressure on law enforcers, inciting them to illegal actions against opposition supporters," Ishkhan Sagatelyan, the Parliament Vice-Speaker, has stated. According to his story, policemen are using disproportionate force against demonstrators.

The coordinators declared the start of the last phase of the protest movement on May 6. Mr Sagatelyan has explained that the opposition' goal is to increase the critical number of supporters of to the level when the police will not be able to restrain the people's anger. "Pashinyan will resign when law enforcers report to him that they lack of resources for him to maintain his power," the opposition politician has added.
