Kremlin refuses to take seriously a petition for Kadyrov’s resignation

Moscow opposition politician Ilya Yashin posted on the “Change.Org” website a petition to the President of Russia with a request for the resignation of Ramzan Kadyrov from the post of the leader of Chechnya. The petition has already been signed by more than 20,000 people. The numbers of votes can be gained by bots, and that is why the Kremlin is not taking the petition seriously, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov notes.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the President of Russia held a meeting with the leader of Chechnya amid a scandal over the threats from the authorities of Chechnya to the Yangulbaev family, human rights defenders, and journalists. According to analysts, the meeting looks like an attempt by the Kremlin to gently correct the leader of the region, but this will not affect the stability of Ramzan Kadyrov’s positions.

“Ramzan Kadyrov has been heading the Chechen Republic for 15 years already. During this time, he has turned the region into a separate state within the Russian Federation. Chechnya has its own rules, but the Russian laws essentially do not work,” the petition states.

Ilya Yashin, an author of the petition, notes that “Ramzan Kadyrov and his close associates make public threats against journalists, human rights defenders, judges, and their families, appeal to the concept of “blood feud”, and promise to cut off the heads of their opponents.”

The petition also talks about the economic situation in Chechnya. “Ramzan Kadyrov publicly admits that he has not been able to solve the economic problems of the republic ... It is obvious that he does not correspond to his position,” the author of the petition summed up.
