Saakashvili complains about beating in hospital

Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, a former Georgian president, has stated that he was tricked into the prison hospital and that after he arrived there he was beaten up.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that starting from October 1, Mikhail Saakashvili has been on the hunger strike in the prison in Rustavi. The former president of Georgia demands to release him. On November 8, the country's penitentiary service reported about the transfer of Mikhail Saakashvili to the prison hospital. At the same time, Nino Lomdjariya, the Georgian Ombudsperson, said that Saakashvili was taken to the prison hospital by deception, as he was told that he was being transferred to a multidisciplinary civilian clinic.

Mikhail Saakashvili has complained that after he was taken to the prison hospital, he was beaten up. "Without warning, the staff began taking me out. Despite my categorical refusal, they pulled me out of the car, threw me to the ground and hit me several times in the neck. They dragged me by my hair, and of course I resisted, just the same, as in the ward, when I was approached by some vaguely criminally looking medic, and I really pushed him away because they began injecting me with something without my permission. My reaction was caused by a stress after all this violence and abuse," the politician wrote in his letter. the text of which was read out on November 8 live on air by Nika Gvaramiya, a Saakashvili's advocate, whose words were translated by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Saakashvili has added that the hospital staff insulted him. "One of the prison officers, apparently the boss, told me: 'Here, birdie, you are in our hands,' and began insulting me. I asked his name, but they didn't tell it. <...> I refuse any medical intervention. I don't cooperate with the medical staff. I'll only see my personal doctor. <...> I was forced to physically resist the violence, but I was alone here," Saakashvili has written in his Facebook page today.
