News about Saakashvili's arrival in Tbilisi sparks resonance in Georgian society

The return of Mikhail Saakashvili will benefit the country, the followers of the former Georgian president have commented on his Facebook message about his intention to fly to Tbilisi on October 2. Saakashvili will face criminal cases, their opponents have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 5, 2018, the Georgian court found Saakashvili guilty of exceeding his authority when pardoning convicts for killing the businessman Sandro Girgvliani and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment.

In Georgia, Saakashvili was also charged with embezzlement of budgetary funds, dispersal of the oppositional action in November 2007, pogrom at the "Imedi" TV Company, and seizure of property from billionaire Badri Patarkatsishvili.

Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili, a former president of Georgia, has posted in his Facebook page a video message in the Georgian language and a scan of his air tickets from Kiev to Tbilisi; he is to land at the airport of the capital of Georgia on October 2.

As of 9:20 p.m. Moscow time on September 28, the Saakashvili's record received more than 2000 comments. In the account of the former president, his followers welcomed his return.

"I dream Misha to come and again become the president of my country – Georgia! Saakashvili is the greatest person in the entire post-Soviet space!" the user Ladji Isakova has written. "All Georgia should meet you – the Georgia's pride," the user Niyamaddin Ismailov has pointed out.

However, some commentators have recalled that Saakashvili will face criminal prosecution. "And how can he fly to Georgia? He will be immediately arrested and placed in jail for a number of crimes," the user Anna Shilina has asked. "And isn't it an interference of a foreign citizen in the elections? Where is the European PACE looking? They should be warned in writing just in case," the user Medea Delidi has written.
