In Dagestan, deputy principal dismissed after requirement for schoolgirls to wear headscarves

Adamkadi Kurbankadiev, a deputy principal of a school in the village of Madjalis, signed a letter of resignation of his own free will. However, he claims he has signed the letter under pressure from the school administration, which put him in charge of checking whether schoolgirls were wearing headscarves.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in September, a wide public outcry was provoked by a video about how the deputy principal of the school in the village of Madjalis was examining schoolchildren near a metal detector, letting only schoolgirls in headscarves into classrooms.

It was Adamkadi Kurbankadiev, the deputy principal, who forbade the schoolgirls to come to classes with their heads uncovered, and he has already been dismissed from his position, reports Shamil Magomedov, the head of the Education Department for the Kaitag District.

According to the official, a headscarf is mentioned in the school charter as an optional item of clothing. “This is just a piece of clothing, and there is no obligation for schoolgirls to wear it,” the school administration explained. Adamkadi Kurbankadiev insists that he was checking the presence of headscarves by the order of his superiors, who now deny it.
