Makhachkala residents plan to visit mosques during Eid al-Adha

Contrary to recommendation not to visit mosques because of the pandemic, some believers in Makhachkala are planning to perform collective namazes (prayers) during the holiday of Eid al-Adha, but decided to give up visiting relatives and making mass sacrifices.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since June 21, Dagestan authorities banned services with believers in mosques due to a sharp increase in coronavirus infection cases.

Idris, a resident of Makhachkala, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that this year his family has decided not to receive guests and not to visit relatives on the holiday.

Idris said he visited the mosque last year for the festive prayer and plans to do the same this year as well.

For Magomed, a resident of Makhachkala, the Eid al-Adha is a family holiday. Earlier, his family and the families of his two brothers used to gather in their parents' house, but this year they decided to abandon the established tradition, since Magomed's parents are now on voluntary self-isolation.

Magomed has noted that he plans to make the sacrifice through a charitable foundation, and called this option "the easiest."

According to his story, he performed a festive namaz in 2020 and plans to attend a festive collective prayer this year, but will do it in the mosque yard.
