Dagestani law enforcers refuse to admit guilt of beating Amakhanov

Two law enforcers accused of beating up Temirkhan Amakhanov, a Derbent resident, in 2017, stated that the charges against them were based on perjury, while the proofs of their innocence was ignored.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Temirkhan Amakhanov, a resident of Derbent, complained to law enforcers about the illegal, in his opinion, construction of a multi-storey building. However, instead of checking his application, law enforcers, according to Amakhanov, in April 2016, broke into his apartment, beat him and his wife up and fired a pistol. A year later, law enforcers took him to the police station, where they beat him so severely that Amakhanov had to remove his spleen. Then, for three years, he was seeking to initiate a criminal case against the law enforcers.

On March 16, the Derbent City Court held the second session on the case of the beating of Temirkhan Amakhanov by law enforcers. Two law enforcers were attracted as defendants.

Both defendants and their advocates told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about their disagreement with investigators' version. In their opinion, the inquiry was biased.

"Investigators just followed the victim's lead, actually taking his word for it. Law enforcers did not beat Amakhanov. On that day, the victim and his son had a conflict; and all the injuries were most likely inflicted during this conflict," said Nazarali Fataliev, an advocate of one of the law enforcers. His client also refused to plead guilty.

Shakhin Bairamov, an advocate of the other law enforcer, has treated the charges as "fictitious." According to his version, his client believes that the entire charge against him is "based on perjury," and intends to bring the witness to criminal liability for this.
