Azerbaijan states at the ECtHR about Armenia's war crimes

Azerbaijani authorities have applied to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) with a complaint about Armenia's actions during the Karabakh conflict. Baku has accused Yerevan of expelling Azerbaijani population from the region in early 1990s, and of bombing cities in the fall of 2020.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after the conclusion of the truce with Azerbaijan, residents of Armenia appealed to the ECtHR demanding the extradition of 120 prisoners of war (POWs).

According to Azerbaijani authorities, Armenia failed to take any steps to investigate the fate of 3890 Azerbaijani citizens who disappeared as a result of the conflict.

The complaint also stated the shelling of cities and villages in Azerbaijan, located far from the combat zone, with cluster and phosphorus shells, and ballistic missiles. As a result of these attacks, 93 people perished, including 12 children; 423 others were wounded; and 264 houses were destroyed.

In particular, during the autumn conflict escalation, the second most populous city of Azerbaijan, Ganja, was repeatedly shelled.

According to the Amnesty International, both Azerbaijan and Armenia used inaccurate weapons when shelling dwelling settlements, which resulted in deaths of dozens of civilians.

The parties in conflict have repeatedly accused each other of using prohibited weapons, including phosphorus shells.
