Azerbaijani performances confirm Shusha's claims to status of cultural capital

People's Artists of Azerbaijan have recorded music videos in the city of Shusha. The video records captured sights of the city damaged and survived during the shelling attacks.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the water pipe damaged during the shelling attacks has been restored in the city of Shusha (the Armenian name is Shushi, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), which was captured by Azerbaijan during the autumn escalation of the conflict. Furthermore, a power transmission line has been installed in the city. Shusha is covered by a 4G network, and there is Azerbaijani radio and television broadcasting in the city. The road to Shusha is to be built within 1.5 years. In late December, the first grocery stores and a pastry shop were opened in the city.

Natig Jafarli, the head of the "Republic" Economic Research Centre, has noted a promising idea of transforming the city of Shusha into the cultural capital of Azerbaijan with a number of cultural institutions, including the music conservatory, to be transferred to the city from Baku.

People's Artist Alim Gasymov and his daughter Fargana Gasymova recorded a video which was then posted on the Azerbaijani "DayTube" video hosting. The footage demonstrates views of the snow-covered Shusha and its sights, a prayer sounds in the mosque.

The melody of the popular Azerbaijani song "Sari Gelin" ("Blonde Bride" or "Mountain Girl") has also been recorded in the Ghazanchyan Temple (the Armenian name is Ghazanchetsots Church, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"). The composition is performed on a wind instrument by Azerbaijani artist Shirzad Fataliev and Magsad Azizov, a soloist of the "Natiq Ritm Qrupu" band, the "Trend" reports.

The capture of the Shusha city in November was a key event during the autumn escalation of the Karabakh conflict: after the capture of the city, the Azerbaijani troops entered the areas immediately adjacent to Stepanakert, the capital of Karabakh.
