Kadyrov ridicules US and UK sanctions

Ramzan Kadyrov has treated the new sanctions imposed by the USA and United Kingdom in connection with human rights violations in Chechnya as absurd, and assured that these restrictions would not affect the situation in Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 10, the US Treasury expanded the Magnitsky list by adding, in particular, the Akhmat Kadyrov Foundation, the "Akhmat" Football Club (FC), the organization named "Akhmat Absolute Championship" and the "Akhmat" Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Club.

On the same day, the authorities of the United Kingdom imposed sanctions against Magomed Daudov, the Speaker of the Chechen Parliament, two high-ranking officials of the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the "Terek" regiments of special forces, whom London considers to be involved in persecuting the LGBT community.

Ramzan Kadyrov has reacted to the US and UK sanctions with assurances that the new restrictions would not in any way affect the situation in Chechnya. "I am not surprised by this event, nor am I afraid. These sanctions do not affect the Chechen Republic and its development. [...] We'll play football (no matter who tries to spoil the players' and fans' moods), provide assistance to those in need, build, revive and enjoy life. Another point is strange – why don't they understand in America that these sanctions don't affect us in any way?" Ramzan Kadyrov wrote in his Telegram channel on December 10.

He has also ridiculed the position of the US and UK authorities. "America has begun fighting sports, wives, children, charity organizations, athletes, horses. [...] There has never been anything more absurd in the history of all mankind. [...] Nothing has changed in the recent world history: the USA begins, the UK assents and claps its hands, and Europe sings in tune," Mr Kadyrov has written.
