President Aliev: Armenia to compensate for damage to Azerbaijani territories

Today, Ilham Aliev has stated that Azerbaijan will seek compensation from Armenia for material damage caused to the Azerbaijani territories during the time they were under the control of Yerevan and the forces of the unrecognized republic. The General Prosecutor of Azerbaijan appealed to the UN in connection with shelling attacks on civilians.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 10, an agreement between Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia on the cessation of the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh came into force. According to the text of the statement, the Azerbaijani army is to stop at occupied positions in Nagorno-Karabakh, and a buffer zone of five Azerbaijani regions surrounding the unrecognized republic is to be voluntarily transferred to Azerbaijan.

Today, during a meeting with soldiers and officers, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev has said that Azerbaijan will demand compensation for the damage caused to the territories which had been controlled by Armenia.

"Almost 99% of our liberated territories have been destroyed, including residential houses, schools, hospitals, public buildings, historical monuments, graves of our ancestors, and mosques. Now we post these images on the Internet, and anyone can see them in the media. This is savagery and vandalism. This is a war crime," said the President of Azerbaijan as quoted by the RBC.

In his letter to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, Azerbaijani General Prosecutor Kyamran Aliev reported about the deliberate attacks of the Armenian armed forces on the Azerbaijani civilian population and the use of banned phosphorus ammunition. The General Prosecutor of Azerbaijan noted the facts of shelling attacks on civilians by the Armenian side and the use by Armenia of banned phosphorus bombs and "Smerch" and SCUD heavy multiple missile launchers against civilian targets. The number of victims to the conflict among civilians has reached 93, the General Prosecutor noted in his letter as reported by the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan.
