Death toll after missile attack on Ganja reaches 12

The number of casualties of missile strikes on Ganja has reached 12; and more than 40 civilians have been wounded, the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) has reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 10, an agreement on ceasefire in the Karabakh conflict zone entered into force, but the parties to the conflict continued to report about battles and shelling attacks.

On October 16, at about 10:00 p.m., an intensive shelling of Stepanakert and nearby villages was launched; the cities of Shushi and Martakert and a number of villages also came under fire. Azerbaijani authorities have stated that the Armenian Armed Forces launched missile strikes on the cities of Ganja and Mingachevir.

In the missile attack on Ganja, 12 people were killed and more than 40 civilians were wounded, the "Echo of Moscow" reports with reference to the Azerbaijani GPO.

According to the GPO, the infrastructure and the transport network were seriously damaged.

Khikmet Gadjiev, an assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, has confirmed the increase in the number of casualties and wounded residents of Ganja. "More than 10 civilians were killed; about 40 others were wounded. Rescue works continue," Mr Gadjiev wrote in his Twitter.

Yerevan has refuted the accusations of shelling Ganja. From the territory of Armenia or by the Armenian Armed Forces no fire was opened in the direction of Azerbaijan, the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated earlier.
