Neftekumsk special operation becomes first in Stavropol Territory within more than 12 months

Today, a suspected militant from the "Islamic State"* has been killed in a special operation conducted in the city of Neftekumsk. In March 2019, far prior to the today's special operation in Neftekumsk, a shootout occurred between law enforcers and IS* supporters in Shpakovsky District.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, the FSB has informed about the special operation conducted in Neftekumsk, during which one of the supporters of the "Islamic State", a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, was killed, and another was detained.

According to the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources, the special operation in Neftekumsk has become the first armed incident between law enforcers and militants in the Stavropol Territory since March 14, 2019. On that day, the law enforcement bodies received the information about two armed men near the Balki farm yard in the Shpakovsky District. Both suspects were killed in a shootout with law enforcers. According to the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC), the killed suspects were natives of the Volgograd Region who joined the IS* and arrived in the Stavropol Territory to organize a terror act.

Earlier, the recent armed incident in the region took place on December 19, 2018. Then, two persons were killed during a special operation in Stavropol. The FSB reported that the suspects rendered resistance during their detention. According to the authorities, the killed suspects were also members of the IS* and came to the Stavropol Territory from another region to prepare a terror act.

In the Neftekumsk District, the recent armed incident between law enforcers and militants took place on May 1, 2018. Then, according to the law enforcement bodies, in a district centre, a man injured policeman and tried to escape. When the police tried to detain him, the suspect stabbed another policeman with a knife and was shot dead.

On the other day, May 2, 2018, it became known that the terrorist organization "Islamic State"* claimed responsibility for the attack on the policemen.
