Nagorno-Karabakh CEC announces second round of presidential election

In Nagorno-Karabakh, none of the presidential candidates gained the required number of votes. Therefore, the second round of the presidential election is scheduled for April 14. Following the results of the voting, five parties got seats at the parliament, the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 31, the NKR held voting at the presidential and parliamentary elections. The total voter turnout was 72.6%, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has informed.

According to the preliminary information, former Prime Minister Araik Arutyunyan gained 36,706 votes (49.6%), while 19,360 voters (26.7%) supported Masis Mailyan, Nagorno-Karabakh Minister of Foreign Affairs. Vitaly Balasanyan, former Security Council Secretary gained 10,750 votes (14.7 %). This has been announced today at a press conference by Srbui Arzumanyan, the chair of the Nagorno-Karabakh CEC.

Thus, none of the presidential candidates gained the required 50% plus one vote, so the second round of the presidential election will be held in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the law, the second round of the presidential election is to be scheduled for the 14th day after the first round, that is, it will be held on April 14, the chair of the Nagorno-Karabakh CEC announces.

"In the second round, two candidates who gained the most votes will run to serve people as the next president," Srbui Arzumanyan explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
