Action in support of Mamaladze held at residence of Georgian President

At the residence of the President of Georgia, protesters demanded to pardon Archpriest Giorgi Mamaladze.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 28, the Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili failed to include Mamaladze into the lists of those pardoned; and on November 2, she refused to consider the clemency request submitted by the Synod, referring to the preparation of new rules for this procedure.

On September 5, 2017, the court sentenced Giorgi Mamaladze to nine years in prison, finding him guilty of preparing the murder of the secretary of the Georgian Patriarch and illegal possession of firearms. On August 9, 2018, Mamaladze appealed to the Georgian President for pardon, but he was not put on the list. Besides, he filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The "Smeni" youth public movement has organized a protest action at the Tbilisi residence of Salome Zurabishvili, by exposing the posters "Freedom to Giorgi Mamaladze!"

Protesters have announced that the convict's health condition is critical. "Salome Zurabishvili has pardoned a policeman's killer, paedophiles, and gangsters, who haven't spent a day in jail. Therefore, we demand from Salome Zurabishvili to use her constitutional right and pardon the Dean Giorgi Mamaladze, whose health condition is critical," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has translated the words of activist, Dimitri Bidzinashvili, spoken out on air of the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel.
