Films about residents of Dagestan screened at "Kunaki" Film Festival in Nalchik

On September 6, the "Kunaki" (Friends) Festival of Cinema and Television in Nalchik showed two films from Dagestan – "Parable of Lame Ram" and "Zada's Children". The first documentary tells about incorruptible policeman, who was fired from the law enforcement system, and the second one – about rural teacher who has raised about a hundred adopted children.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the North-Caucasian "Kunaki" Festival opened in Nalchik on October 5.

On October 6, the morning documentary screening session opened with the "Parable of Lame Ram", filmed in 2015 by director Irina Vasilieva. The film tells about a resident of Dagestan, incorruptible policeman Magomed Shamilov, who was fired from the law enforcement system. According to Magomed himself, he was fired for his honesty and sticking to principles. In the film, he is presented as an implacable fighter against corruption and clannish tradition in Dagestan: he lives in a modest, even poor house, while his colleagues have built mansions. Magomed's friends call him Don Quixote, saying that he is fighting windmills.

Another film in the morning session, the "Zada's Children", is also from Dagestan. The film by Patimat Burzieva, a film director from the RGVK (Republic's State Broadcasting Company) "Dagestan", tells about Zada Maksudova – a teacher of mathematics and, at the same time, the director of the school of the village of Nizhny Keger in Dagestan, who currently raises 22 foster children.

In total, since the 1980s, Zada Maksudova has raised about a hundred adopted children. "Zada gave me the love that my own mother couldn't," said one of her adopted daughters.
