Dagestani residents dispute on the date of Kurban Bayram

The Muftiate of Dagestan has scheduled the celebration of Kurban Bayram (Eid al-Adha) on August 12, while in other regions it is celebrated on August 11, residents of Dagestan have complained. Their opponents have urged to trust local theologians.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that August 12 was declared a day off in Dagestan in connection with Kurban Bayram. In Chechnya, August 12 and 13 were made days off, while the first day of the holiday in Chechnya was August 11.

Dagestani social network users draw attention to the fact that in other regions of Russia, Kurban Bayram is celebrated on August 11. "Almost everywhere, they celebrate today, but not in Dagestan," wrote the user tamik_prostoy_. "Actually, everyone is celebrating on August 11. Is there another Islam in Dagestan?" the user acconet2017 has wondered.

"Why are Dagestani Muslims deprived of the opportunity to celebrate Muslim holidays together with the rest of the Muslims of the world?" asks burjui.001.

Other debaters have rebuked opponents for their critical attitude to the position of the republic's Muftiate.

"Earlier, there was no Internet and no phones; and everyone celebrated, when their own mosque recommended; and people trusted. Aren't we too critical? If Alims and Imams are not right, they should answer, and they are responsible. The Muslim's duty is to trust, not doubt", wrote the user aishat.68.
