Chechen tower provokes dispute between Dagestani historian and Speaker of Chechen Parliament

The Speaker of the Chechen Parliament criticized the version of Dagestani historian Zurab Gadjiev who stated that the Chechen watchtower near the village of Ansalt was built in the territory of Dagestan. Magomed Daudov accused Zurab Gadjiev of an attempt to incite "ethnic hatred."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January, the authorities of Chechnya and Dagestan agreed on the demarcation of the border between the republics. On June 10, residents of Kizlyar demolished a road sign with the inscription "Shelkovskoy District".

A photo of the medieval-style watchtower was posted on Facebook by historian Zurab Gadjiev, a member of the public commission for clarifying the borders of Dagestan and Chechnya. He described the construction as "a tower erected by neighbours in the Dagestani land."

"The goal is clear: to incite ethnic hatred ... If you want to challenge the belonging of pastures or towers then set the time and place for a conversation. We will listen carefully to your arguments and present ours. And I assure you, everything will fall into place," wrote Magomed Daudov, Speaker Chechen Parliament, on his page in "VKontakte".

The construction stylized as a watchtower was erected in the Chechen territory, explained officials from the administration of the Vedeno District of Chechnya.

Some social network users supported the position of Zurab Gadjiev.
