Kadyrov's threats anger Dagestanis

The second incident with a damaged road signpost on the Dagestani border of is a reaction of republic's residents to the threats voiced out by Ramzan Kadyrov and the arrival of Magomed Daudov with a detachment of armed law enforcers, analysts believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 10, a video appeared on the Internet of the demolition of a road sign with the inscription "Shelkovskoy District"; and on June 12, it became known about the demolition of two more signposts on the Chechen-Dagestani border.

The second episode with demolition of Chechen road signs was a predictable reaction to the threats pronounced by Ramzan Kadyrov, who promised to "break fingers and pull out tongues" of authors of unpleasant comments in social networks, says Ekaterina Sokiryanskaya, Director of the Centre for Conflict Analysis and Prevention.

"In Northern Caucasus, people always perceive fixing borders extremely emotionally. Besides, people have a heightened sense of pride; and if they are provoked by rude rhetoric, they will react," Ms Sokiryanskaya asserts, noting that the authorities of the Russian Federation should assess the statements of the Chechen leadership, since threats provoke an increase of tension.

The demolition of the second signpost on the border with Chechnya is a spontaneous response of residents of Dagestan to Daudov's visit of and Kadyrov's threats, Milrad Fatullaev, the editor-in-chief of the RIA "Derbent", believes.

He has added that some people are tuned radically, as they see claims for Dagestani territories in the actions of the Chechen leadership.

The demolition of the second signpost demonstrates the tension of the situation, Gadjimurad Sagitov, the editor-in-chief of the "Novoye Delo" newspaper, believes.
