Elections in Georgia end in two criminal cases

The oppositional alliance "Strength in Unity" has counted 120 violations at the election of the Mayor in the city of Zugdidi. Based on the voting totals at 14 constituencies, the Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has opened two criminal cases.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 19, a number of Georgian cities voted at the mid-term parliamentary and local self-governmental elections. The opposition alliance "Strength in Unity" fixed more than 80 violations at the elections in the Zugdidi electoral constituency, while the ruling "Georgian Dream" Party claimed provocation attempts in Zugdidi. NGO activists reported about the so-called "voting carousel" and pressure on voters in Zugdidi and other regions.

Additional policemen were involved in Zugdidi to ensure security, the press service of the Georgia's MIA has reported and immediately instituted two criminal cases, the details of which have not yet been disclosed, the "Sputnik Georgia" reports. Five persons were detained on that day, the "News-Georgia" has added.

The oppositional alliance "Strength in Unity" claimed 120 violations in Zugdidi, where Sandra Roelofs, the wife of the third President of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, ran for the post of the Mayor, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has reported.
