Vasiliev's words about accidental death of Gasanguseinov brothers anger social networks

The Gasanguseinov brothers were not intentionally killed by law enforcers, but fell victim to a tragic mistake, the head of Dagestan, Vladimir Vasiliev, believes. Such an assessment of the shepherds' death has caused a negative reaction in social networks.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 20 at a press conference in Moscow, Mr Putin promised to "pay attention" to the murder case of Gasanguseinov brothers.

On August 23, 2016, the 17-year-old and 19-year-old sons of Murtazali Gasanguseinov from the village of Goor-Khindakh were killed in the Shamil District. Law enforcers declared that the brothers were militants; however, the brothers' fellow villagers insisted that they had nothing to do with militants.

"As I understand, it was a tragic mistake. [...] Imagine: a CTO (counterterrorist operation, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"); it was night; some people were descending from the mountains; and someone couldn't stand his nerves and opened fire. A tragic accident, I am sure," Vladimir Vasiliev said in his interview with to the "Novoe Delo" (New Cause) newspaper, posted on its website on January 26.

The assessment of Gasanguseinovs' death as a "tragic mistake" has triggered a heated discussion in social networks. Commentators argued whether the killing of Gasanguseinov brothers was a "tragic coincidence," however, they agreed on a negative assessment of law enforcers' actions after the shepherds' death.

"According to Vasiliev, it turns out that a person who has a firearm can also shoot dead anyone and then refer it to the fact that he had lost his nerves, or became nervous," Khasan Abdullaev was outraged.

"Let's suppose that it was a tragic accident ... But the deliberate concealment, manipulation of facts, re-dressing... Was it accidental too?" Shuaib Apandi has supported him.
