Armenian government offers broadest amnesty in the country's history

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of Armenia has submitted a bill to the Parliament on a mass amnesty, which covers, among others, the members of the "Sasna Tsrer" detachment and the "Constituent Parliament".

The Parliamentary Commission on State-Legal Issues and Protection of Human Rights will consider the amnesty bill on October 26, after which it will be sent for discussion of the MPs, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the office of the Armenian Parliament.

The government approved the bill back on October 4, Lusine Martirosyan, the press secretary of the Armenian MoJ, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to her story, the amnesty is timed to the 100th anniversary of the First Republic and the 2800th anniversary of the founding of Yerevan.

The amnesty will be the largest in the history of the country, although it is difficult to calculate the exact number of covered people, Ms Martirosyan has added.

The amnesty will concern those, who committed their crimes before October 1, 2018, suggests the bill, posted on the website of the Parliament. It assumes amnesty of members of the "Sasna Tsrer" detachment and their supporters, and members of the "Constituent Parliament", if this will not be prevented by hostages or victims, who had suffered physical damage.
