Conflict in Kendelen affects celebration of Adyg Day in KBR

The broad-scale celebration of the Adyg Day in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) takes place at the background of the Balkars-Kabardians conflict over the historical interpretation of the Kanjali Battle.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Adyg Day is celebrated annually on September 20. The holiday was established on August 12, 2014.

In his celebratory address, Khauti Sokhrokov, the President of the International Circassian Association, has especially mentioned the relations with Balkars.

The celebration of the Adyg Day was preceded by an incident in the village of Kendelen on September 18, when villagers did not let the participants of the march held in memory of the 310th anniversary of the Kanjali Battle through their village, after which clashes broke out.

The Adyg Day should give impetus to the consolidation of the Adyg ethnos, will strengthen the good-neighbourliness and respect among the KBR nations, said Yuri Kokov, the head of the region.
