German media call a person arrested for terrorism a native of Chechnya

The German Prosecutor's Office has reported an arrest of a Russian citizen suspected of storing explosives and plotting a terror act. The suspect detained in Berlin is a native of Chechnya, the German media report. However, the Chechen Minister of Press and Information has questioned the Chechen origin of the arrested person.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 15, in Austria, the court found two natives of Chechnya guilty of plotting a terror act. On May 12, in Paris, a young man attacked passers-by with a knife. He killed one person and injured four others. The attacker, shot dead by policemen, was identified as Khamzat Azimov, a native of Chechnya.

The largest Chechen Diasporas are formed in Austria, Belgium, Germany, and Norway.

Today, the press service for the German General Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe has reported that a native of Russia, who lived in Germany in recent years and who was detained in Berlin on suspicion of plotting a terror act, was placed to a detention centre.

On August 22, Der Spiegel reported that Russian citizen Magomed-Ali S., detained in Berlin, was a native of Chechnya. "An Islamist from Chechnya could be engaged in plotting a major terror act in Germany," the article reports.

The newspaper Tagesspiegel has also reported with reference to its sources that "the Chechen native was visiting the Fussilet Mosque in the Berlin District of Moabit, where Salafis met."

In turn, the Russian Embassy in Germany has reported the verification of the information "about the detention in Berlin of a 31-year-old man on suspicion of plotting a terror act."
