Attack committed by teens in Chechnya shows improved tactics of IS attacks

Scientists engaged in oriental studies note that appeals of the IS (the "Islamic State", a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") were heard by Chechen teenagers who improved the tactics of solo attacks and organized a series of incidents.

On August 20, a series of attacks was committed against law enforcers in Chechnya. Five militants were killed. After the attacks, the authorities will use tough methods against teenagers, rights defenders stated.

The oldest participant of the attack was 18 years old, while the other attackers were 11-17 years old. That fact confirmed by the conclusion made by the "Caucasian Knot" about young people actively joining the armed underground.

The attacks on policemen were aimed to demonstrate the existence of an armed underground in the republic, Akhmet Yarlykapov believes.

However, the effectiveness of the attack was reduced by the fact that Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov was in Saudi Arabia on the day of the incident, the political analyst believes.

According to him, a series of attacks committed on August 20 is a complex attack compared to solo attacks practiced earlier by members of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia.

The most important fact is involvement of teenagers in the attacks, believes Professor Alexei Malashenko.

"A feeling of struggle is ripening among the younger generation ... It is very sad that children are involved in attacks and they stand against the police and the authorities. I believe it is very dangerous," Alexei Malashenko said.

He noted that the attack committed by the teenagers could be organized under the impression of the IS videos about solo attacks.
