Aslan Gagiev extradited to Russia

Aslan Gagiev, a native of North Ossetia, accused of organizing a series of resonant murders in Russia, has been handed over to Russian law enforcers in Vienna, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reports today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in January 2015, Aslan Gagiev was detained in Vienna, and on September 12, 2017, the court in Austria approved his extradition to Russia. The defence requested that the decision to extradite Aslan Gagiev should be revoked, but on March 30, the Austrian Supreme Court dismissed the defence motion.

According to investigators, the Aslan Gagiev's grouping committed about 40 murders in North Ossetia, Moscow, and the Moscow Region.

Today, Aslan Gagiev has been extradited from Vienna to Moscow. He is accompanied by agents of the Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) for Russia of the MIA and the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN), reports today the website of the Russian MIA.

Aslan Gagiev "is accused of involvement in dozens of contract killings, including assassinations of top-ranking law enforcers and officials and well-known businessmen," reported Irina Volk, the spokesperson for the Russian MIA, as quoted in the statement posted on the MIA's website.
