Prime Minister of Georgia resigns

Giorgi Kvirikashvili has announced his resignation from the post of Premier, referring to the situation in the country.

"I tried to be the Prime Minister for every citizen," he said on Wednesday at an emergency briefing.

Mr Kvirikashvili has enumerated some "important reforms", economic growth and correct policy, taking into account the occupation of part of the country, as his achievements in the post, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"I am a team player; therefore, I notice the moods in the team and make the decision, which any team leader should have made in my situation. I leave my post today," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Giorgi Kvirikashvili as saying.

He has headed the Georgian Government from December 30, 2015. According to the Constitution of the country, his resignation means dissolution of the government.

Mr Kvirikashvili has left his post at the background of mass protests, caused by the murder of two schoolboys in Tbilisi. On June 11, Zaza Saralidze, the father of one of them, temporarily stopped the actions to give time for the government to fulfil the demand to punish those guilty of the murder and dismiss the Ministers of Justice and Internal Affairs.
