Political analysts argue on Aina Gamzatova's prospects in presidential election

The decision of Aina Gamzatova, the wife of the Dagestani Mufti, to run for presidency was not coordinated with Kremlin, but even such an attempt gives candidates a chance to become all-Russian-scale public figures, the political analysts, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", believe.

"The nomination of the Mufti's wife as a presidential candidate is so marginal that no one would have thought of coordinating it with the Kremlin," Boris Makarenko, the head of the Board of the Centre for Political Technologies, is confident.

Running for presidency is not only Aina's initiative, Sergey Ilyin, a political analyst and the editor-in-chief of the "GDP Magazine", has suggested, noting that participation in the election gives a chance for little-known people to enter the Russian social and political arena.

He gave Umar Djabrailov as an example, who ran for Russian presidency in 2000, and then "became a prominent political figure."

Thanks to the growing role of Islam, there is a trend towards greater women's emancipation, the participants of the seminar held on September 13 at the Moscow University of International Relations (known as MGIMO) stated.

According to Professor Roman Silantiev, an expert on Islam from the Moscow State Linguistic University, Gamzatova may win at least 2 million votes, "given the number of spiritual followers of her husband and her own authority in the Muslim community," the "Interfax" reports.
