Residents of Chechen town of Shali decide to evict militants' family members

On January 19, the town of Shali hosted a gathering, which participants held militants' family members responsible for the actions of the militants and decided to evict in future militants' family members from the town. This was reported by the Shali Mayor's Office. Some participants of the gathering believe that the authorities are trying to avoid responsibility for illegal actions against militants' relatives.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier, similar gatherings were also held in other populated areas of Chechnya, including on January 16 in the regional centre of Kurchaloi and on January 13 in Tsotsi-Yurt of the Kurchaloi District of Chechnya.

According to a source from the Shali administration, the gathering was held in the town, since the number of suspected militants and their accomplices detained last week included several residents of Shali.

Residents of Chechnya reported about mass detentions carried out in eight villages of the republic after the armed clash which occurred on January 11 at the village of Tsotsi-Yurt of the Kurchaloi District. On January 16, a source from the law enforcement bodies reported that as a result of a special operation held in Chechnya, law enforcers detained 60 people suspected of involvement in the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia by court's decision.

"On January 19, the Shali House of Culture hosted the gathering, which was attended by heads of the Shali administration and of the region, officials from ministries, departments, and law enforcement authorities, members of the elders' council, religious figures and citizens. Several hundred people came to the gathering," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a source from the Shali administration.

"At the gathering, it has been decided that in future, family members of militants and terrorists will be evicted from the republic," said the source.
