In "Nardaran case", defendants complain about torture

At the trial in the "Nardaran case", the court has listened to the testimonies of residents of the village of Nardaran, sentenced in other criminal cases. They have claimed that during the preliminary investigation, they were beaten and forced to testify against Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the movement "Muslim Unity".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 3, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes began the trial in the "Nardaran case". The recent court hearing held on October 14 was closed after the protest against the testimony of the witnesses, a policeman. The defendants threw a bottle of water to him, and he threw a shoe to them in response.

On October 17, Judge Alovsat Abbasov, who chaired the court hearing, warned Abbas Guseinov, the deputy chairman of the movement "Muslim Unity", about inadmissibility of violation of the order and threatened to finally remove him from the courtroom prior to the completion of the trial.

According to Abbas Guseinov, "the incident which occurred at the court hearing of October 14 was provoked by false testimonies of staff members of the 'criminal groupings department' (the Chief Department for Combating Organized Crime (known as GUBOP) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), note of the "Caucasian Knot")."

Besides, the court has also listened to the testimonies of the witnesses, residents of the village of Nardaran, who had been sentenced in other criminal cases on charges of illegal possession of weapons. They stated that they had been arrested "by slanderous accusation."
