Three terrorist suspects wait sentence in Chechnya

On May 31, the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic adjourned the pronouncement of the sentence to three residents of the republic who are accused of the terrorist attack on the Government House on December 27, 2002.

The press service of the Supreme Court has refused to publish the reasons why the pronouncement of the sentence was adjourned. "The court sitting was simply put off for some time. The exact date of the new sitting, during which the Supreme Court will have to pronounce its final judgment, will become known only at the end of the week," a press service official said to the Caucasian Knot correspondent. According to investigators, the prisoners at the bar, namely Valid Suleimanov, Akhmed Ismailov, and Yusup Yunusov, prepared cars with explosives and accompanied them to the target. On December 27, 2002, the cars loaded with explosives broke through the cordon and entered the territory of the complex of government buildings in Grozny. This terrorist act left 78 people dead and over 200 injured.

All the defendants admitted their guilt in the course of the investigation. All the three terrorists are reportedly threatened with life imprisonment. The investigators' version is that the organizer of this terrorist attack is notorious Chechen field commander Shamil Basayev.
