Kislovodsk Imam sentenced to 3.5 years in prison

Today, Kurman-Ali Baichorov, the Imam of Kislovodsk, was found guilty of illegal drug dealing and sentenced to 3.5 years of deprivation of freedom.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Baichorov refused to plead guilty. The state prosecution demanded for him five years in prison and a fine of 100,000 roubles. Supporters of Baichorov called the accusation a provocation and associated the harassment of the Imam with his intransigence on mosques in Kislovodsk, where the authorities managed to ban the construction thereof.

By the decision of the Predgorny District Court of the Stavropol Territory, Baichorov will serve his sentence in a general security colony. Clarification of 10:05 p.m. on January 12, 2015: In addition to the prison term, the court also fined him by 50,000 roubles.
