Akhmad Kadyrov killed in explosion in Grozny

On May 9, a high-capacity explosion occurred at the Dinamo stadium in the capital of Chechnya, Grozny. Victory Day celebrations were going on there when it happened.

Many people fell victims to the terrorist act. President of Chechnya Akhmad Kadyrov and Chairman of the State Council of Chechnya Husein Isayev died in the explosion; Commander of the Joint Group of Forces in the North Caucasus Colonel-General Valery Baranov received severe injuries.

Malefactors mounted the explosive device under the central stand, the Caucasian Knot correspondent was told at the republican interior ministry. The bomb went off at 10:35, when the official part of the celebrations was over and a holiday concert began.

"A lot of people were at the stadium at that moment; almost all stands were filled up," a duty officer of the interior ministry said.

According to him, several people suspected of committing this terrorist act have already been detained.
