Dagestani native receives no necessary medical care in prison, his wife asserts

Nadira Isaeva, the wife of prisoner Abdulkhalim Abdulkarimov, who is serving his sentence in the penal colony in Solikamsk, claims that her husband is seriously ill and that he does not receive adequate medical treatment. Besides, the woman claims that the penal colony violates the conditions of detention of prisoners.

A staff member of the medical unit denies the fears voiced by the Abdulkhalim Abdulkarimov's wife. In turn, the administration of the penal colony, where Abdulkhalim Abdulkarimov is serving his sentence, argues that the prisoner does not voice any claims.

On July 8, 2006, Abdulkhalim Abdulkarimov, a native of the Tsumadin District of Dagestan, was sentenced for arms trafficking and an attempted murder. He was sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by the Abdulkhalim Abdulkarimov's wife that her husband misses one kidney and that his months-long stay in the cell-type rooms provoked a number of diseases. The women mentions spinal column osteochondrosis as the most dangerous of her husband's of diseases.

Nadira Isaeva filed a complaint to Mikhail Fedotov, Chairman of the Russian Presidential Council on Human Rights, to delegate the Council's representatives to visit the prisoners kept in the cell-type rooms, including her husband.

Osteochondrosis of thoracic, cervical or lumbar sections of spine column is a state close to the physiological, unless it involves a pinched nerve roots in spine column, and it is not an absolute indication for hospital treatment. This was stated by Yury Tarasov, the deputy head of the medical unit No. 59.
